I know. I know. I am sure you are all dieing to hear about Jake’s swimming spot. Read if you must…
It is on the Missouri about 5 miles from my house. I took Jake there today after I got home from the Farmer's Market. (I'll talk about the market after I give you the scoop on the swimming spot. Be patient.) Okay, so as I was saying... About 5 miles from my house is THE swimming spot. It had a great place to park, the current was next to nothing and there wasn't a soul around. Fantastic. I got in the water too. Just up to my knees, but it felt great!! Today the weather is super HOT!! The breeze helps some but it too is warm. (The warm wind seems strange to me.)
Now the Market: I meet Courtney and Jason downtown where we have our Saturday Market. It was much larger than the Fairbanks’s Farmers Market. I was surprised, I don't know why. I just was. It has your typical market finds (with the occasional surprise): jewelry, pottery, produce, music, baked goods and even a street performer (that is the surprise). After the market we went to get smoothies and I grabbed a sandwich. Then we ran into a parade. I have no idea why there was a parade today, but I think it had something to do with Montana Shriners clubs. I enjoyed it. There were tons of old men riding around in mini cars. Smiling and waving. Seeing all of them was humbling to me. The Shriners do so much for children. I have been thinking about their charity work all day and I am still humbled by them. It takes a special individual to be willing to donate time and money to others, especially strangers. So often we give to those we know and love but when it comes to helping a person in need that we don't know we stand back. I think that people who give to individuals they don’t know are the ones we need to strive to be more like.
Now I am back to my ever present question... What do I want to do to make a difference? Not just giving an extra 20 in the offering at church. (That is great too. There are times when that is all you can do.) The key, I think, is finding something you are passionate about. What are you passionate about?

Great post! The thing I feel most guilty about in my whole life is not giving enough back...not giving my time, sweat and energy. I am passionate about the environment and singing. I used to volunteer by singing in a nursing home, but I think I'd really like doing Habitat for Humanity.
You should do it!! I know you miss singing... You can sing and hammer!
I think my passions are children with special needs and animals. I so want Jake be a therapy dog. He and I would be a good team.
I found a therapuetic riding center? I think I will call them this week and see if they need any help.
I would really like to help out with the Special Olympics. I am passionate about sports and the impact they can have on a young child's life; giving them such joy and gratification in knowing he/she can overcome an obstacle and accomplish a task otherwise thought as impossible for them.
I finally set up an account. Andy and I a going to be bloggers also. Its about time we start stepping up so all these youngsters don't roll us over!!
Great post!!!
Andy and I say the same thing all the time about doing more than just donating money. We say all the time that we need to go over to the Habitat for Humanity building and donate sweat equity!! You have put the ball in motion, we are going to start this WEEK!!! We are also entering in a charity Mud Volleyball this weekend in Columbus, OH for the Epilepsy Foundation. This should be loads of fun. We will post pictures!
Rock Climbing with Chris this past weekend was AWESOME!!!! I will post pictures of that also.
