Reconsider long road trips with infants!

Okay we made it back from our trip to Spokane. Why didn't anyone tell me what we were getting into, traveling with a 2 month old?!!! Before Wilson I thought that traveling would be easy with a baby. They just eat, sleep and poo, right?? Good one.

This trip was a great trial run for later this summer when Dad and I plan on driving, with the dogs and Wilson, back to Ohio. Needless to say, Dad and I have been discussing other options for the summer trip. Like, Wilson and I flying and Dad and the critters driving. We'll let you know in a few months what we decide but I have a feeling I will be earning some sky miles.

Now back to the Spokane trip...We ended up staying 2 nights which should have been the plan to begin with. The only way one night would have happened is if we were traveling by space craft. We left here at 11:40 am and rolled onto Fairchild Air Force Base, in Spokane, at 9:00 pm. Normally, the drive from Great Falls to Spokanetakes 6 hours. I have never claimed to be good in math but I know that 11:40-9:00 is NOT 6 hours. I knew it would take longer...but holy cow!!

The morning after we arrived in Spokane we headed straight to the University to meet with the head of Speech-Language at Washington State. My meeting with him went great. I found out that I do not have to go full time to stay in the program, which is HUGE. I know it may take me longer to finish going part time but it will, with out a doubt, be easier on Wilson. Hopefully I can make it where I have long weekends, giving me the option to drive and see Chris.

After my meeting, Dad and I drove around the area to get a feel for good and bad areas to live. We found some really great places. Some were better than others and some were "real potential" homes that I would not hesitate to buy if Chris would be with me. I could just see the money we could make if we could fix them up, but, I don't really need to be in a fixer upper by myself if you know what I mean. Regardless, what ever we decide, rent or buy, I think I know where I want to look at.

I am really excited about Spokane. I remember really liking it when we drove through last May but I didn't know if it was the city or just the fact that we had been living in North Pole, Alaska for three years. Thankfully, my warm fuzzy feelings still linger. I just love it!! I could not get over how green everything was (I should have taken pictures of the flowers!). Downtown has some really neat stores and the Spokane river runs right through the city really adding to the ambiance.

I'm glad that you are going to like your next home, though I think finally being in school would make just about any place great.

And, yeah, traveling with kids isn't all that great. I'm not sure when it gets easier, because it hasn't yet.

I am glad you liked Spokane. Sorry we weren't able to get in touch. Dan has a big event for the school where he works coming up soon and was just to fried to even think about an evening trip to Spokane. I don't know when you are planning to move to Spokane but mom will be down in June and perhaps if you are around we can meet up the weekend of the 22nd-24th. Let me know what you think.

Oooh! It looks nice there! I agree that getting a fixer upper when living alone with a baby and two dogs would NOT be ideal!!

I always said, "I'm just going to keep on doing my normal life stuff and just add a kid. No big deal!" WRONG. Wrong on so many levels!!! It slows you down so much....but it is worth it!~
