Screaming Sick Sun

After the cousins and Aunt Kelli headed back to Columbus, Wilson got sick. Really sick. On the Friday after they left (June 22) Wilson ended up in ER. He had a high temperature and was inconsolable. I didn't want to take him to ER but with his temperature not changing, after a luke warm bath and Tylenol, I thought we should go. The doctor advised us to continue to give him Tylenol every 4 hours and follow up with the Pediatrician if his temperature lasted more than 3 days. He thought that the temperature was most likely a result of Appalachian allergies and teething. The next day, I called a nurse to ask about giving Wilson Motrin because his temperature was not budging. She advised me to go to see a Pediatrician in Urgent Care if I felt that he was not improving. Unfortunately, that was the case, so we headed back to the hospital to see a Pediatrician. Wilson's temperature was 102.5 and seemed to be staying there, he didn't want to nurse and was very fussy (not normal for happy little Will). After some blood work and an urinalysis the verdict was a virus and we were sent home to continue taking Tylenol. Sunday he was better, his Temperature stayed around 100 and he seemed to be improving. However, Monday morning was a completely different story. Wilson woke up again with a high temperature and noticeable joint pain. He also seemed to have developed a rash. The rash was on his chest, legs and arms, and brighter in his joints. He didn't want to be touched, which was definitely not Wilson because he is my little cuddlier. I called the doctor and he asked me to come right down to the hospital. The doctor evaluated Wilson and decided to admit him into the hospital so we could observe him and pin point exactly what was wrong.

Looking back on the situation Chris and I get sad about everything the little guy was going through, but during it all, we just wanted to get him better. We were calm and focused on Wilson and his health. In fact, I am surprised that I didn't even shed a tear when they placed and IV in my baby's little hand.

Wilson ended up spending 2 nights in the hospital. He was dehydrated and in a lot of pain. They gave him an IV and some medication for teething (magic swivel), stomach cramps, and of course Tylenol for the temperature. After about 12 hours Wilson's temperature was under control but he was still extremely sore to the touch. So sore that the only way I could nurse him was to climb into the cage/crib with him and dangle my breast above his mouth. (Not the best picture, I know, I apologize.)

Wilson was diagnosed with a viral infection, the Rotavirous, and "possibly" Roseola. After two days of IV's and a temperature under control we headed to Columbus to catch a plane to Florida. You may think we are crazy for still going on our vacation but the doctor said we should be fine, we had the medicine we needed and after all, there are hospitals in Florida too.

Our trip to Lauderdale was wonderful!! Every day in the sun Wilson got healthier. He loved it there and especially loved his Grandma Carol, who he will call CiCi. We met my best friend from college Melissa, her husband Andy and their adorable daughter Clara. We hung out with the babies by the pool and when they took naps CiCi watched them inside so Lissa and I could sun bathe. We truly had a fantastic time.

We are now back in Ohio and staying at Chris' parents until he and the men in his family leave for their annual fishing trip on Friday. I need to run for now. It is our anniversary and we are heading out to dinner with out the little one. (The first time we have gone with out him.) Let's hope I can relax.

I am so sorry that Wilson was so sick. How terrible! I'm glad to hear that he felt well enough to continue on your trip, though.

(And, I've done the dangling boob above mouth thing, too.)

I am so sorry to hear that Wilson was so sick. Congrats on being so strong for him. I would have been an absolute mess.

I too have done the dangling boob thing, in a moving car...

Your story about Wilson makes my heart hurt, literally. What a sad story. Didn't you just want to scream out loud when all that was going on with him? I HATE when Salem gets sick (obviously), because you feel so hopeless.

I hope you and Chris enjoy your time together.

Yeah, Alison and i know ALL about Rotovirus!!!!!!! You are VERY LUCKY that you did not catch it. I will consolidate this story to a couple sentences. Isaac contracted it. Second time took him to urgent care, hospital admitted him as dehydrated. next thing we know, I am bent over and can't stand up. alison is throwing up along with and other ailements.

Alison's entire family only had 30 minutes to 2 hours of contact with him. victims included , John, Jill, Alison, Me, Alison's mom, Dad slightly, Aunt, Cousin, Grandpa (99 years old at the time) Michael, There might be some more, this happened 1 year and a half ago. It took me 3 days before I could stand on me feet and have enough energy to walk.

But the good thing is, We still went on our 1 week ski trip!!!!

We know how you feel, It takes about a week to get all back to normal.

They might have a vaccine for rotovirus i though i heard about now?
