On the 4th we went to the Portland Zoo, which Wilson LOVED!! His favorites were: zebras, monkeys, fish, and the elephant.
After the zoo we drove to the Oregon coast, Cannon Beach. The town is really neat. I have never been to the Oregon coast, nor have I been to the New England coast. But Cannon Beach was how I have imagined the NE coast to be. Foggy, windy, and lots of rock.
I know that I have talked about Wilson and his motor bike sign, but I don’t think I have mentioned how much Wilson likes bikes. Let’s just say he LOVES them. His interest in them seemed to have happened independently. The first time we noticed his interest was a couple months ago when Chris and I went to REI. Wilson wanted to touch EVERY bike in the store and was trying so very hard to produce the word correctly. "Bye, bYe byeee" he would say while changing his intonation to see what was correct. Now, NO BIKE, not even a Harley, is safe from his little hands and it is by far his clearest word “bike”.
When we arrived in Cannon Beach Chris saw that there was a bike shop and while I was busy looking at pottery; the boys were busy checking out bikes. Wilson was even able to take one for a spin.
After our coastal experience we headed back to Vancouver, WA to watch the fireworks. Chris’ company had a huge party at the corporate office. (The office is located near the river, which is a perfect spot to watch the fireworks.) We didn’t stay for the fireworks because they started at 10 and we had had a long day of exploring so by 10 we were back at Chris’ apartment.

We stood out on the balcony and were able to see some fireworks, which Wilson really enjoyed until I got scared. (Some freaks were setting some off in the road and debris was landing on Chris’ porch and I could picture us at the ER with a child with third degree burns.) Kids are SO PERCEPTIVE!!
The next day we went to THE ORIGINAL Pancake House and it was amazing!! I had french toast with strawberries. My all time favorite breakfast food. Mmm, mmm. After we filled ourselves with sugar, we headed to the mall where we couldn't find anything we were looking for. Then we drove around for an hour or more; so Wilson could get a good afternoon nap. Who cares if it is 4 dollars a gallon-- as long a the kid is sleeping.
The next day we drove to Mt St Helen’s where we saw fog and more fog. Seriously.
We couldn’t see the volcano but it was still a good experience. We plan on heading back on a clear day. On our way back down the mountain we had some of the best food for lunch at the 19 mile resturaunt.
I ate a huge chili dog and Chris (and Wilson) had amazing burgers and homemade (the sign says famous) cobbler. I had a bite and must admit it was pretty darn tasty.
Today we flew back to Spokane. Wilson has had two naps and is ready to do it all over again…
Guess what I got for our anniversary?? We are flying somewhere.
Here is a hint: huge northern pike and salmon

We were in Portland too this weekend. Which mall did you go to? We went to the zoo in October an JD had a great time. I've never been to Cannon Beach, Dan and I spent our honeymoon in Lincoln City. And we are spending our 5th anniversary there too but my in-laws decided to invite themselves along so...
Mom will be in town a week from today. We need to figure out when to get together. She is here from the 14th – 29th and we are in Boise from the 18th – 23rd. I was thinking it would be fun to just get together and let the boys play all day. Let me know what you think.
And if you get to go to Alaska I'm so totally jealous!
You guys are so busy!! I love all your adventures. This looks like a wonderful weekend/vacation! Wilson is so cute. I can't believe he likes bikes that much. Becca covers her eyes and cries if a motorcycle even comes near our street! :) Then, I'll say "that wasa motorcycle" and she'll say "I'm never going on one."
I love your hair that length! So cute!
If you're going back up to AK, I'll be so, so, so, jealous of you!
I can't wait to hear more about this; you must fill us in on the details!
I posted (or thought I posted) an entry on this blog a few days ago but it isn't there today. Freaky. Anyhoo - on the Anniversayr trip hints, you left something out . . . huge northern pike, salmon, and the coolest friends ever.
I can't wait.
Damn right the coolest friends ever!! We cannot wait either! See you in 12 days!!
Yeap you guessed it ALASKA here we come.
We can't wait to cheer on Wilson and Reid in their first Bicycle race 15 years from now!!!! Andy was excited to hear that Wilson loves bikes sooo much!!
We are also jealous of your trip to Alaska. Andy and I want to go back so bad. Hands down it has been the best vacation EVER!!! Better than Europe, China, Canada, Northeast Coast and Japan!! Have Fun!
I'm totally envious of your Alaska trip! Allen and I have been thinking about our next trip, which may be a few years out.
It sounds like you had a great time in Portland. And, you look GREAT!
