I am curious... Who has read The Battle Hymn of the Tiger Mother? I just finished it and would love to talk about your impressions of the book. I really enjoyed reading it. It fascinated me. Just to get a glimpse at that culture and her mind was fascinating... I have more to say but I will wait to see what you all have to say first. Then we can talk about it together.
Here are two links about the book:

I'm putting it on my Goodreads list of "to reads." I just read the essay at one of the links - amazing and very controversial. When I read it, I'll let you know.
I read it and LOVED it. I was also completely fascinated.....she made some really good points about how we western parents are failing our kids. She was definitely too extreme, but I have to say she inspired me to do more for my kids....(not that I've done it yet. But I WANT to!)
I loved it too! I was almost afraid to say that, but I did LOVE it. I actually agree with her on many things too. Not the yelling, no choices, and overbearingness but the working with my kids so that they are successful, taking responsibility for their success (and in some cases failures) and limiting (she appears to not even want to limit but eliminate) TV, etc. I was completely amazed that this woman was able to do as much as she has done. Parent, teach, write, etc. I wanted her to be happier and in the end see that happiness is one way we find success... But she and I are different people with COMPLETELY different backgrounds. I wonder what her daughters books (I am optimistic that they will write one in the future) will be like to read. I would love to hear their opinions (can you believe that things they could articulate at the ages they did in the book? amazing.)
I believe, with ever fiber of my being, that there is a certain balance we need to cultivate in our lives and am trying very hard to acquire it... I have a feeling I will be trying my entire life.
