Kari and anyone with doula advise

Hey Kar,
I have no idea where your home email is. I only have your old work email from Georgia. I may not have time to call you this weekend so I want to tell you to call me or... go to the McQuilton family blog (one of the links under friends and family) to contact my firend about your doula questions. Anyone else who may have some advise, or opinions, about having a doula assist during delivery please feel free to post a comment.
Thanks, Jame

I just put another link up on my blog for people interested in doulas and it's the Dona International website.

The skinny: husbands usually feel intimidated by doulas. Dona has information on the site for them. Matt and I chose not to have a doula for Liv's birth and we regret it, though, at the time, we thought we'd be a great team and wouldn't need one (we were a great team but needed more help than we thought we would). We didn't understand what doulas really are there for and I caved and let Matt's apprehension win.

The second time, even though Matt was in Iraq, I realized that had he been there, I STILL would have had a doula and will next time. Without a doubt. They are such an invaluable service. They have hundreds of hours of training in numerous areas and most, if not all, have been through it themselves. I think they are mandatory in the support of natural childbirth in today's day in age. Especially if you're having a hospital birth where the lure of drugs is SO SO appealing.

My friend, Jae Rin, also had a doula and will again this time. She's linked on my blog at The Patriartic Family and I bet she has wonderful advice too. She's the one who convinced me to have a doula in the first place.

Kari, you can find my email address on my profile. Or, call me: 802-659-4456 (5 hours ahead of Eastern time). I had such a wonderful experience last time with my doula that I'll have to try hard not to talk your ear off.

Jamie and Natalie,
THank you so much for your input. I am in the process of changing care givers. Long story, but I have my first appointment with her tomorrow morning. It is a Midwives pratice that specializes in Natural water births WOOHOO!!! Finally I found someone that would do what I WANTED!!!! I know, I am crazy, changing caregivers at 28 weeks after we moved and now at 36 weeks again!! Oh well, I hope it was worth all the extra work to shift paperwork around.
I am planning on talking with the midwife tomorrow about doulas in this new area. If the money is there and they are not too much, we will probably do it. So far I have been quoted $700 to $2000. BIG difference. That is our only holdback. If only insurance would pay for it, esp since they will not have to pay for all the Dr. Bills and pain medications. THanks to you both with all the info. I will let you know what we plan on doing.
Also, our blog is up and working again. adventurewings.blogspot.com. It is in the beginning stages.

Kari
