Wilson was very excited about camp and both he and I learned a lot! One thing I learned or rather one thing that has been confirmed is that Wilson is ABSOLUTELY left handed. Before camp we went glove shopping and whenever he put a glove on his left hand he would try and throw with the glove. It was cute but not very effective. (Just by chance, if any of you have a lefty, I would recommend you get a glove well before your child needs it. We bought the only glove PK right hand glove in town.)
Figuring out which hand he would pitch with wasn’t the only great thing I learned. I learned lots of great ways to teach him to throw (“nose, toes, throws”), catch (the alligator), and bat.
Speaking of batting, our Little Man decided on his first day of batting practice that he would not bat with the helmet. At the time, I didn't understand why he did this. He wears his biking helmet with no problem. Why won't he wear the batting helmet? The helmet refusal drove me a tad crazy... I told him that it was for his safety. That didn’t seem to matter to him. We ended up skipping the hitting rotation.
The next day, thankfully, he changed his tune. Whewww whooo! He batted right away. In fact, without any prompting from me, he walked right up to his coach and said, “I will wear the helmet today! Can I bat first?”
Looking back on the batting issue I have to say that it is classic Wilson. He is such an observer!! He isn't really the kind of kid that just jumps right in. He needs to watch/observe before doing most things. He did the same thing at gymnastics, watching for 15 minutes of the beginning of his class (for the first two weeks) before participating.
side note: T-Ball made me miss home and family so very much. I was the only. ONLY. person there without a husband or grandparent helping out. We made the best of it, but I don't know how I could have done it if Nora was older. She was very happy each day to just sit in the stroller and watching all the big kids... Maybe I shouldn't sell myself short... I would have figured out something, but it just sucks sometimes. sucks.
