Healthy

Good news. I am A.O.K.

Last week I saw a blood specialist about my high white blood counts (my counts have been off for the past 6 months) and she does not have any concerns. She said that because everything else in my blood work looks good, the white blood cells don't concern her. She recommended I recheck my blood work in 6 more months to see if there are any changes and to determine my baseline. She feels that I either:
1. have allergies
2. naturally have a higher white blood count than others.

(Since I have newly acquired sinus problems and bloody noses it is fairly safe to say that I have some environmental allergies. )

This week, Wednesday, I saw a neurologist about my numbness. My nerve study was fine, and there was no permanent damage from the months of numbness. He told me that he has seen many women in my age group with similar symptoms. He also stated that he has asked many of them come back after their initial visits to re-check there status (one and two years post initial visit) and so far none of them have developed any neurological diseases. He feels that my numbness, medically referred to as migratory parethesia (which has been gone for 6 weeks) could be caused by three things:
1. MS
2. A virus that inflamed my peripheral nervous system's pathway.
3. Stress induced hyperventilation. This hyperventilation can happen unknowingly. Meaning, it is not a hyperventilation that is obvious to a person. When we experience periods of high stress and increased anxiousness we breathe more rapidly. When this happens our body's chemistry changes. Mostly decreasing our calcium levels. When our calcium levels decrease our blood vessels constrict and may result in numbness (parethesia).

My doctor feels, with my results on the MRIs and the nerve conduction study, that he is confident number 1 (MS) is NOT what was causing my symptoms. sigh. However, we don't know if it was 2 or 3, but my money is on number 3. If my symptoms come back I was told to breathe. Just kidding. I was told not to worry and feel confident in knowing that I am a healthy woman with a long life ahead of her.

Thank goodness! I'm so glad you are getting some answers and that they are not SCARY answers!

My mom had both her arms go numb a few months ago and they never figured it out. I'm going to send her this post!
